I watched the Couric interview last night and was so embarrassed for Palin. How she got elected governor is beyond my comprehension. What really saddens me though is that she ACTUALLY THINKS SHE CAN RUN THIS COUNTRY. She's delusional. My only fear (other than the fear of her actually BECOMING VP) is that this will set women in politics back 100 years.
I have yet to figure out why so many people are mesmerized by this woman. Why would anyone want to vote for someone like themselves? I for one, would rather I elect someone that is smarter than me not someone I can chat with recipes and child stories. She stands for everything I am totally against. She frightens the hell out of me because there are dumb enough people in the world that would want her in charge. Whatever happened to the days when we wanted our President and Vice Presidents to be a our Heros and not just a friendly person to have a beer with? We've had 8 years of that already and look where that got us. I for one am voting for Obama/Biden and am counting the days until I am able. I wear my bumper stickers and display my yard sign proudly.
NB-C - I loved your recent political rant. I know you've got so much bottled up that's been dying to come out, and I was glad to see your original brand of tongue-in-cheek perspective on your page. The next month and a half will be very interesting... and I am checking my door step every day for my Obama support pack!!
Q- Yeah, our dear Sarah is out doing Tina Fey. With every passing day she is becomming a characature of herself. I can't wait for her to profess her Miss Congeniality title as an example of her success in negotiating with foreign leaders.
D- Considering how small the global market really is (and how well-travelled so many other women are - excusing Ms. Palin) I am certain most folks beyond our borders know there are some top notch women in leadership in the states. It's unfortunate that Palin is the flavor of the week regarding female political ambition. Let's hope she doesn't set us back 20 years.
M- yes, Palin is the poster child for blind faith. Thank God there are so many of us who see the light. That said, I have some staunch GOP friends who have reluctantly said they, too, are less than enthusiastic with McCain's choice in running mate. If he wanted to go the female route, why didn't he pick Kay Bailey Hutchison? I thought she would have been the obvious choice.
We can only hope things work out the way they should in November...
I think you've got exactly the right comparison--that's exactly what I had in mind when I saw her answer to Couric's question about the bailout. It's incoherent.
But the Palin-Miss Teen South Carolina comparison may be apt for another reason. Obviously, the teenager is more intelligent than that clip showed (and she did reasonably well in follow-up interviews). Palin is certainly a better politician and a smarter person than she appears to be in the Gibson and Couric interviews. She could be dangerous if and when she gets her sea-legs.
WOW!!! I had missed the interveiw. It was embarassing. I did see the Tina Fey skit from this weekend and thought it was mostly jokes , but I am afraid some lines were taken direct from the interveiw. Wow.... I'm dumbfounded by this...wow.....did I say wow?

She almost said "I can Russia from my house." That would have made me laugh. A lot.
And then shiver with fear.
Do you think people around the world think Palin is the best our country has to offer as far as smart women? I am also scared.

Palin = Miss S.C.
That is hilarious, thanks for the laugh.
